You will climb a vertical ladder system up a steep cliff face before trekking through muddy valleys choked with thick peat moss. The trail forces you to balance on giant tussocks to avoid sinking knee-deep into the bog. You will gain 992 meters of elevation, arriving at Mutinda Camp (3,588 meters) by 12:30 PM. The camp sits beneath a massive rock overhang, providing shelter from the near-constant afternoon mountain drizzle.

Day 4: Acclimatization & Peak 1 (Weismann's Peak - 4,620m)

To prepare your body for the extreme altitudes ahead, you will tackle your first summit today. Leaving camp at 6:30 AM, you will hike 3.1 miles up a steep, scree-covered ridge to the top of Weismann's Peak on Mount Luigi di Savoia, reaching the 4,620-meter summit in about 4 hours. You will spend 20 minutes taking photos at the top before a 2.5-hour descent back to Bugata Camp. Completing this 6.5-hour round trip helps your lungs adapt to the thinning air, where oxygen levels drop to about 57% of what they are at sea level.
